Generic Zovirax is primarily used to temporarily treat (but not cure) herpes simplex virus. Take Generic Zovirax at the first sign of herpes related symptoms, such as: tingling, blisters or a burning sensation. Generic Zovirax reduces the occurrence of outbreaks associated with herpes, genital warts, cold sores, chickenpox, and shingles (herpes zoster). This treatment works to destroy much of the herpes virus, diminishing it's the growth and the potential to spread.
Take Generic Zovirax exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Treatment with Generic Zovirax should be started as soon as possible after the first appearance of symptoms (such as tingling, burning, blisters).
Take each dose with a full glass of water. Drink plenty of water while you are taking Generic Zovirax to keep your kidneys working properly.
Generic Zovirax can be taken with or without food. Taking Zovirax with food may decrease stomach upset.
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Generic Zovirax: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Herpes infections are contagious and you can infect other people, even while you are being treated with Generic Zovirax. Avoid letting infected areas come into contact with other people. Avoid touching an infected area and then touching your eyes. Wash your hands frequently to prevent passing the infection to others.
Generic Zovirax will not prevent the spread of genital herpes. Avoid sexual intercourse or use a latex condom to prevent spreading the virus to others.
Before taking Generic Zovirax, tell your doctor if you are also taking probenecid (Benemid). If you are using probenecid, you may not be able to use Generic Zovirax, or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment.
There may be other drugs that can affect Generic Zovirax.
Never exceed the recommended dosage of Generic Zovirax. Missed doses should be taken as soon as the users remembers, however if it almost time for the next dosage, skip the missed dose and revert back to normal schedule. Do not take more than 2 doses of Generic Zovirax in one instance.
Store Generic Zovirax at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep away from children and pets.
