Generic Atacand (candesartan) is classified as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist medication. Generic Atacand lowers blood pressure and maintains healthy blood flow by impending the narrowing of blood vessels so that blood can pass through smoothly. Generic Atacand is often prescribed in combination with other blood pressure medications to reduce hypertension (high blood pressure). Generic Atacand may also be used to treat certain cases of kidney disease and type 2 diabetes.
Generic Atacand may be taken with or without food. Contact your doctor for the precise instructions that apply to you. Generic Atacand may take between 2 - 4 weeks before results are seen.
Consult your doctor if symptoms of your hypertension do not improve within 4 weeks of use. Dosage of this medication may change during treatment depending on the severity of your condition and the progression of your illness.
Inform your doctor and surgeon that you are taking Generic Atacand before you go in for any surgical procedure or medical test. Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor, as suddenly halting treatment may worsen your condition.
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Generic Atacand: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
In rare cases, Atacand can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. Call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have fever, unusual tiredness, and dark colored urine.
